Sometimes, a security program can get so intently focused on technology and the most intricate details of intrusion prevention, crisis management and malware identification that all of these major tactical efforts have a common objective: Data Loss Prevention.  This session will revisit the basic premise behind many of the leading security efforts and examine if we're still focused on the goal or whether we may have dropped down too many level to stay on target.

Starting at the beginning, we will discuss and clarify the definition of Data Loss in its most general form.  We will begin with "Do you know where your data is", and proceed to identify and describe circumstances that can affect the answer to this question, and from there identify policies, procedures and technologies that can help assure that the answer is always favorable.  If you haven't thought much about file backups, the delete key (or button),cloud computing,  and the challenge of micro-form media (USB "thumb drives", PDA's, i-PO(A)D's and other pocket media this level setting presentation is probably just what you need.  No technology spoken here, just good practical thinking.
